AI/SM 4 Students

It is increasingly important for those of us with some knowledge about AI and Social Media to share that insight with students and the public in a more general way.  The rate of change in the AI world, and therefor all of the affected areas such as social media makes it difficult, if not impossible to actually stay on top of the diverse paradigm changes that are emerging. (This parallels Tom Friedman's "Supernova" of 2007 described in his book "Thank you for Being Late", with so many implications and areas of impact the term "paradigm shift" cannot capture the scope and impact.)  So below is a presentation I've been using with pre-college students, and other communities ... and a song "I'm Just an Analog Girl in a Digital World" created in response to a colleague's frustration with all of these changes.

I'm just an analog girl in a digital world.

I created this song using AI technology as follows:

1. Using Sudowrite, I asked for a song titled "I'm just an analog girl in a digital world"

2. I used "Voicemod.net" text to song capability to provide music and a voice for this song.

   I tried a couple of difference styles and voices ... none did a good job of aligning the music with the meter of the words.    Nor was I happy with the music generated.

     So, I took two versions into Audacity and separated the chorus segment and verses the result is horrible ... but, besides the liberty I took in "arrangement" the results are 100% AI generated. (The song text it's self is not bad.)  <link to MP3>

To clarify copyright issues.

The US Patent and Trademark Office has ruled that content generated by a computer is not copyrightable (https://www.copyright.gov/ai/)  so presumably the words, music and 'performance' associated with this song can not be protected by copyright.
(Don't trust what the Chatbots tell you, including what they tell you about copyright)

The other side of this is the reality that these tools "scrape" content from many sources, including ones that are copyright protected. Suits have been initiated against the various companies that are "training" the AI's using such content for "derivative" use abuse.
